Biography

Dr. Ira G. Shapiro has been a professor and academic administrator at Temple University since 1970. He is nationally recognized for his contributions to professional preparation in sport and recreation management. He has served on the Council on Accreditation, sponsored by the National Recreation and Park Association and the American Association of Leisure and Recreation, and he has served on the National Code of Ethics Committee for the National Recreation and Park Association. He recieved the Fred

Coombs Award, the highest award given by the Pennsylvania Recreation and Park Society, for his outstanding service to the recreation and park profession. He also received the President’s Citation from the Pennsylvania Recreation and Park Society, and the Service Award from the Pennsylvania Recreation and Park Society for his eight straight years of service on the Board of Directors. He also received the Merit Award in Recreation Education from the Eastern District of the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance.
