det(A) is the product of the eigenvalues of A.  We see this as follows:
If l1, l2, ..., ln are the eigenvalues of A, then they are the roots of its
characteristic polynomial. Hence

c(l) =  det(A - lIn) = det((-1)( lIn - A)) = (-1)ndet( lIn - A) = (-1)n (l - l1)(l - l2)...(l - ln)

Evaluating this polynomial at l = 0 gives det(A) = (-1)2nl1l2 ... ln
and so det(A) = l1 l2 ... ln.

> Page 247 In property 10 the absolute value symbols should be deleted. The display line should be

The order should be rearranged.
