Steering Cables
on drum under cockpit floor

View from starboard side.  The top drum's cable exits from the starboard side and goes to the port block.  The bottom drum's cable exits on the port side and goes to the starboard block.

Traces of a previous autopilot installation are evident -- the double plywood bracket, to which the motor had been bolted and the sprocket at the bottom of the shaft, which had been turned by a chain.

View facing forward, the white surface at the bottom of the photo is the back of the fuel tank.  The white conduit for electric wires caries the wires to the port side and eventually to the hydraulic pump for the new autopilot.

In both photos the zerk fitting to grease the bottom bearing of the steering rod is clear.
