SERVICE TO TEMPLE UNIVERSITY:
Chairman, Department of Statistics, 1982-1987
1. Designed, negotiated and supervised the moving of the Department to the second floor of Speakman Hall.
2. Established the department newsletter, T-Stat News, to publicize the department and its academic programs.
3. Established the Statistics Reading Room which contains many statistics research books and references.
4. Established formal contact and cooperation with local research centers and companies such as the American College of Radiology, Fox-Chase Cancer Research Center, Merck-Sharp-Dohme, Dupont, and the Temple Medical School to support our programs through fellowships, assistantships, and summer internships.
5. Raised external funds to support student and faculty development; these funds were significant enough to provide two additional graduate assistantships (full tuition plus stipend) for three years, to purchase computers and terminals for the 24 full-time faculty members in the department, and to wire all faculty and secretarial offices directly to the University mainframe computers.
6. Designed, negotiated, and achieved in 1986 a 2-2 teaching load for our faculty. The Department and the School had a 3-3 teaching load prior to 1986. Unfortunately, the teaching load went back to a 3-3/3-2 load after 1988.
