Lorica Musculata: Other resources

Loricata and Other Images

Following are images of lorica I have found. I particularly link to images that are interesting or unique. I make no claims for any of these links, or their reliability. I also operate under the assumption that all of these images are copyrighted.

The Muscle Cuirass Good images, mostly from Robinson, which is now out of print; often the text is questionable or out of date.

Loricata of Germanicus from the Museum of Amelia (Italian) Very cool images, rare iconography from the Iliad.

Quicktime VR view of a loricata of Trajan in the Fogg Museum at Harvard
(Perseus Project)

Great images of genuine Roman Gear from Legio VI (includes bronze cuirass that is most likely Greek or Apulian)

A fabulous image of a loricata from the Bologna Museum in Italy. The cuirass has Hippocampi and Nereids, a rare marine theme. It also has the two tiered system of narrow pteruges instead of tongue pteruges AND an anatomical waistline. Very odd combination.

A loricata with Barbarians, Candelabrum and Griffins. Also an image of Helios on the Breast.
