Why am I doing this?
About two years ago I started getting interested in creating a replica of my own lorica musculata. Early research proved daunting and in time I discovered I would pretty much have to do the research entirely on my own. Fortunately I found other fellow travelers who are also embarked on this errand. I am putting this site together piecemeal in the time I have left over from not working on my doctoral dissertation in art history so I can only update this on a part-time basis, but my hope is that I can create a clearing house for those who want to join us in our quest.
My research takes to Rome and Italy, which is convenient, because that's where the art is! All of the images are mine, unless otherwise noted.
In addition, I have a beautiful wife, Jennifer, and three children, Madeleine, age 7, Trajan, age 5, and Livia, age 5 months. And yes, the last two are named after the Emperor and Empress respectively, so you know I take this stuff seriously.
I recently joined Legio XXIV in Newtown Square, PA, but I haven't turned out yet for two reasons, 1.) I'm still getting my kit together and more importantly 2) I'm in the process of finishing my Ph.D. dissertation so this is the back-back burner for me.
If you have any images, suggestions, experience or documentation you want to share, please forward it on and I will post it. Many people are struggling with this problem and there is no reason to suffer alone when we can all suffer together! Bill Hunt and I have been corresponding on this for a while and with any luck we hope to have at least a couple of these hammered out by next year.
