Thick skin, stratified squamous epi (cornified)-low & med. mag.
Cuboidal basal cells, without melanin, rest at the basement membrane. Polyhedral cells become squamous as they near the surface, while they synthesize keratin and lose their organelles. Flat remnants of keratinized cells desquamate at the surface.
