Adrenal, Medulla -High Mag
The medulla consists mainly of chromaffin cells, often poorly preserved and arranged in groups or cords. They are postganglionic sympathetic neurons modified to secrete epinephrine and norepinephrine. The central veins of the medulla, collecting blood from 1) cortical sinuses and 2) a direct arterial supply to the medulla, contain bundles of longitudinally oriented smooth muscle.
