In the loose connective tissue between the intestinal glands are many plasma cells (round eccentric nuclei, purple cytoplasm, “Golgi ghosts”), lymphocytes, and the elongated nuclei of fibroblasts, endothelial cells, and/or isolated smooth muscle cells. Red blood cells stain bright red in this preparation.
