In the loose connective tissue around the glands are plasma cells with their round eccentric nuclei, ample purple cytoplasm in which a “Golgi ghost” may be identified. Small lymphocytes with their small, round, dark, nuclei and minute cytoplasm are abundant. Oval nuclei may belong to fibroblasts. A macrophage is also seen and recognized by its large size, abundant vacuolated pink cytoplasm, and irregular cytoplasmic outline .
