Haversian canals of various diameters are at the center of each osteon. Since the osteocytes have become shrunken, the lacunae are more obvious. Less obvious in these preparations are intercellular canaliculi. Interstitial lamellae are present indicating that remodeling has taken place. In the Haversian canals are remnants of blood vessels, nerves and osteoprogenitor cells.
