Elastic Cartilage -Epiglottis
This section demonstrates the profuse elastic fibers. In addition, many unstained, fine (Type II) collagenous fibers are present throughout. Note the large size of the chondrocytes and the hypercellularity of elastic cartilage as compared to hyaline. Like hyaline cartilage, elastic cartilage is surrounded by a perichondrium, has chondrocytes in lacunae and isogenous groups.
