Robert  W. Sanders

Short CV

Bob Sanders is an ecologist who studies planktonic organisms in marine and fresh waters.  His research emphasis is on protists (algae and protozoa), invertebrates, and their trophic interactions.  He has received research funding to study feeding ecology and remineralization of nutrients by protists, the ecological importance and physiology of mixotrophic phytoplankton and ciliates, the utilization of protozoa as food sources for zooplankton, the bioavailability of dissolved organic nitrogen (DON), the role of DON/DOC in eutrophication, and the effects of ultraviolet radiation on food webs.  He has interests in the ecology of protists from polar regions, and has current NSF funding to investigate mixotrophy and kleptoplasty in the Southern Ocean.

Research Areas (underlined topics are links to more information)

Editorial Boards

Aquatic Microbial Ecology - I've been an editor for AME since 1994.  Manuscripts are now submitted to the Managing Editor.  Click on this LINK and select Guidelines for Authors for more details.

Journal of Eukaryotic Microbiology - After previously serving on the Board of Reviewers, I became an Assistant Editor in 2009.  Submissions to J Euk Microbiol can be made to the editor via this LINK. This is published by the International Society of Protistologists, for which I currently serve as President (see ISOP link below).

Journal of Plankton Research - I jooined the Editorial Board of JPR in 2007.  Use this LINK to find information for submitting a manuscript to JPR.
