The Texts (all available from Ned's, the ASUC Bookstore, and CTE on Bancroft)

There are different editions of many of the fiction titles we'll be reading this term. In order to keep up with in-class discussions, it would be a great help if you could please purchase the edition required for this course.

Joseph Conrad, Heart of Darkness (Norton Critical Edition)
T.S. Eliot, The Waste Land & Other Poems (HBJ)
William Faulkner, The Sound and the Fury (Norton Critical Edition)
James Joyce, A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man (Penguin, ed. Seamus Deane)
T.E. Lawrence, Seven Pillars of Wisdom (sel. from Anchor/Doubleday edn.)
Virginia Woolf, To the Lighthouse (HBJ)
W. B. Yeats, Selected Poems and Four Plays (Scribner, ed., M.L. Rosenthal) [The Yeats is a recommended text; copies of poems will be provided in the reader]

Additionally, you will need to acquire a Reader for the course, either from Krishna Copy on University at Shattuck (510-540-5959), or from Moffitt Reserves.

Recommended Texts

M.H. Abrams, A Glossary of Literary Terms, any ed., OR
C. Hugh Holman, The Handbook to Literature, any ed.
The MLA Handbook for Writers of Research Papers (any recent ed.)
Strunk & White, The Elements of Style
