The Texts (all available from Ned's, the ASUC Bookstore, and CTE on Bancroft)

There are different editions of many of the titles we'll be reading this term. In order to keep up with in-class discussions, it would be a great help if you could please purchase the edition required for this course.

Benedict Anderson, Imagined Communities: Reflections on the Origins and Spread of Nationalism (rev. ed., New York: Verso, 1991)
Thomas Hughes, Tom Brown's Schooldays (Oxford, ed. Andrew Sanders)
Wilkie Collins, The Moonstone (Penguin, ed. Sandra Kemp)
E.M. Forster, A Passage to India (HBJ)
Jeremy Paxman, The English: A Portrait of a People (Overland, 2000)
Zadie Smith, White Teeth (Random House)

A required Reader with essays and poetry will be available from Krishna Copy on University at Shattuck (510-540-5959).
