New Report:
Indicators of School Crime and Safety, 2003 has been released by the National Center for Education Statistics.
New Report:
The National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) has released results of the Trial Urban District Assessment (TUDA), conducted in reading and mathematics in 2003. "TUDA was designed to measure what students at grades 4 and 8 in several large urban school districts know and can do in various subjects. Before 2002, NAEP reported results at the national and state levels only. The first TUDA results were reported for 2002 data from five urban school districts.
In 2003, the TUDA was conducted in nine urban districts: Atlanta City, Boston School District, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, City of Chicago School District 299, Cleveland Municipal School district, Houston Independent School District, Los Angeles Unified, New York City Public Schools, and San Diego City Unified. As in 2002, results for the District of Columbia public schools that normally participate in NAEP's state assessments are reported along with the districts in the trial assessment."

Resource Update:
As many of you are no doubt aware, in January 2004, the Department of Education will begin to implement a reengineering plan for the ERIC database. Although documents already selected by the ERIC clearinghouses throughout 2003 will continue to be added to ERIC in 2004, no new materials will be received and accepted for the database until the new ERIC model for acquiring education literature is developed later in 2004. In summary, ERIC will not be a good source for the most recent education literature until the fall of 2004 at the earliest. As an alternative please use Education Abstracts.
As part of the reorganization the ERIC system is undergoing, the clearinghouses, including AskERIC, are being eliminated. However, in many cases the materials from the individual clearinghouses will continue to be hosted by other organizations. Further information about the future of the clearinghouses can be found at
www.lib.msu.edu/corby/education/eric/clearinghouseplans.htm
Further details about the changes to the ERIC system as a whole can be found at www.lib.msu.edu/corby/education/doe.htm.
Resource Update:
We now have access to Education Abstracts via EBSCOhost, the same vendor that provides us with ERIC, Academic Search Premier, and PsychInfo. This will help standardize the search interface for us all, as well as provide direct links to the full-text content available in Academic Search Premier.
