ENVY
The Clubs usually host large parties, bringing their best DJs out and trying to bring in the best entertainment. Kevin Duffy oversees one of these clubs Envy. Located on 27 Bank St. Duffy, has been in the nightclub business in one way or another for the past 26 years. His venue, offers three dance floors, five separate rooms, five bars and an elevated steel dance cage, which is reserved exclusively for female dancers.
| Speaking of the Philadelphia nightlife Duffy said, "We know that people have a choice in what club they are going to go to, and so from the moment you walk in the door, the staff at Envy do our best to make sure our customers have the best evening out. I think at this point the Philadelphia nightlife scene has become too congested. Places are opening up it seem every week and I just think the scene is beginning to be spread to thin. One of the new things in the city has been the opening of lounges which act almost like mini-nightclubs and for all tends and purposes are changing the landscape of nightclubs and the scene in Philadelphia overall." |

On a night like first Friday's Duffy's remark ring very true. People are everywhere and there are almost too many places to go and the decision becomes very difficult. One of the major issuesDuffy rose was the need for parking especially in Old City, which has few parking lots and most are small and privately owned. So on a night like first Friday, the parking disappears by 7 p.m, Duffy said.
In matters of atmosphere and club size, Envy is the closest thing to a New York or L.A. style nightclub. With multiple rooms levels and cavernous rooms, it tends to give people the feeling that they are surrounded by thousands of people.
Musically, Envy offers a diverse a schedule as anyone club in Philadelphia. From heavy trance and deep house to pop and hip-hop, they seem to have a night or a monthly party that can satisfy any musical tastes.
Diversity also goes deeper than music at Envy. People of all
races, all backgrounds and all genders pass through the castle-like green door
that welcomes all visitors.
