The goal of this course is to introduce students to the fundamentals of conceptualizing, designing, and maintaining effective online publications.

By the end of the semester, students should have developed a strong knowledge of the basics of web design as well as the software programs employed to create online publications.

In addition to teaching the technical aspects of publishing to the web, this couse also proposes to help students develop an awareness of the larger social, economic, and ethical issues associated with the recent development of multimedia.

So, more specifically, this course is designed to provide students with:

1. An understanding of what constitutes good online publishing.
2. An understanding of the differences and similarities between this medium and more traditional ones.
3. Hands-on experience with Web site design and creation.
 
4. An understanding of the issues communicators face in an online environment.

GRADING

Your grade in this class will be based on a combination of homework assignments, tests, projects, and class participation to total a maximum of 1000 points broken down as such:

Homework assignments: 150 points (15%)
Projects: 450 points (45%)
Tests: 100x3=300 points (30%)
Participation and in class critiques: 100 points (10%)
