Fabienne Darling-Wolf, Ph.D.
Assistant professor,
Temple University

Welcome. This site is designed to provide information about myself, the courses I teach--including the multimedia workshop I teach every summer in Tokyo, Japan--and showcase my students' work.

Born and raised in Southern France (where Cotes-du-Rhones wine is made), I have lived for extensive periods of time in Texas, Paris, Southern Japan, Iowa, and am now very much enjoying Philadelphia. If you add in the fact that my life partner is a Canadian of Ukrainian origins, I guess we are a rather international bunch. Our three-year-old daughter Hana has three passports but Tokyo is definitely her favorite place to be.

Not suprisingly, my research focuses on international communication. I am particularly interested in the intersection of gender, race, class, and cultural identity as it is negotiated in an increasingly global environment. I think Japan is the most intersting place on earth and have currently been doing a lot of work on popular constructions of Japanese masculinity.

At Temple, I teach courses in gender issues, journalism history, publication design (I was a designer in another life), and new media technologies in the department of journalism.

The "jpra357" button above will take you to the site for my introductory class in online journalism.
