THE COMMISSION FOR BOSNIA IN DIALOGUE

The "Commission for Bosnia in Dialogue" is an international organization of Jewish, Christian, and Muslim scholars of religious studies. Our aim is to contribute to the stability and long-term existence of the religiously and ethnically pluralistic civilization of Bosnia-Hercegovina. Our efforts to realize this goal include establishing institutions, contexts, and venues that will foster mutual understanding, respect for the rights of others, and a lasting peace through interreligious, intercultural dialogue.

To this end, we have put forward a proposal for the establishment of a Department of Interreligious Dialogue at the University of Sarajevo. It is our conviction that the establishment of such a Department of Interreligious Dialogue will contribute fundamentally to the process of healing through mutual understanding and respect that must be accomplished if Bosnia-Hercegovina is going to overcome the horrors of internecine hatred and war. The success such a project will likewise provide a beacon of light to the other countries of the former Yugoslavia, as well as the rest of Eastern Europe, and indeed, to the rest of the world, whenever the specter of religious and other fratricidal hostility and violence emerge.
