On-Line Software Tools DESCRIPTION
Scientific Calculator Free online math/science calculator with units conversion. Easy to use. Scientific Calculator Free online math/scientific calculator that supports functions for algebra and trigonometry. Enter a formula either by typing on the keyboard, pressing the buttons on the calculator with the mouse, or a mixture of both. Scatter plot applet Enter data in ordered pairs like 4,-7 Press enter after each pair. To plot the points click the Plot/Update button. There are lots of options for showing grid lines, setting domain, range, and scale. Linear Function Explorer A linear function is of the form y = ax + b.
In this applet, move the sliders on the right to change the values of coefficients a and b and note the effects it has on the graph.Linear Regression Applet You can type in a data set, graph it, see the graph of the line of best, and the values of the slope and y-intercept. Linear Regression with correlation coefficient Type in your data set an ordered pair at a time. (Press enter after each coordinate is typed.) Click the Update Display button to plot new points. The line of best fit will be updated and along with its slope and y-intercept. The correlation coefficient is also displayed. (JCM applet.) Linear Regression with correlation coefficient Enter data using the mouse. Least squares line can be shown, but no equation is displayed. The correlation coefficient is also displayed. Practice with correlation coefficients Data sets displayed and you are to match pictures with correlation coefficient values. Graph applet with tracer and more. From the National Library of Virtual Manipulatives.
You can enter formulas for 1-3 functions and have the graphs appear on the same coordinate system. A trace operation is available. This applet has additional features; use the instructions button. When entering the function expression you need not explicitly indicate multiplication. You can enter like 2*x2 or (12*pi)*x3.
Graph and tracing applet This applet can graph two functions and trace along the curves. When entering the function expression you must explicitly indicate multiplication like 2*x2 or (12*pi)*x3. There are directions. To see the domain and range click on the BOUNDS button. Graph up to 2 functions and trace using Flash You can enter formulas for 1 or 2 functions, have the graphs appear on the same coordinate system, and trace either one showing coordinates of points. When entering the function expression you must explicitly indicate multiplication like 2*x2 or (12*pi)*x3. Practice forming Linear functions. This is a Flash program which provides practice forming linear equations in either slope intercept form or point slope form given two points. Practice determining the vertex given a quadratic equation. This is a Flash program which provides practice determining the vertex of the graph of a quadratic equation. Graph one function and trace the curve. A grid is displayed. This is a Flash program which will graph the function you enter, trace along the curve, and display the coordinates of the tracer dot. A grid is superimposed on the graphics window for better estimation of things like intercepts and turning points. Practice solving linear systems in 2 unknowns This is a Flash program which provides practice solving linear systems of 2 equations in two unknowns. Practice solving mixture problems This Flash program generates word problems in which you are asked to determine the amount of two quantities which are mixed given the total amount of resulting mixture, the price of the mixture, and the prices of the two quantities. Practice constructing the equation of an exponential function. This Flash program generates problems in which you are asked to determine the C and a in y = C ax given two points which lie on the graph of the exponential function.
Information about Quizzes and Homework in MyMathLab
HOMEWORK will be assigned with a time limit. Homework questions can be tried up to 3 times to get the solution correct. When you finish the assignment and click the Submit button a grade will be computed. By going to the course homepage in MyMathLab, clicking the Do Homework button you get a list of homework you can still work on and retry problems you did not get correct. By clicking the Similar Exercise button you will get a new problem that can be solved. A correct solution to this problem will change your grade. Reworking homework within the prescribed time period you can improve your grade on the assignment.
QUIZZES will be assigned with a time limit. Quizzes can be retried a second time within the specified time limit. If you do this, the quiz will be regenerated in the sense that the problems will change and be reordered. When you finish the quiz and click the Submit button a grade will be computed. By going to the course homepage in MyMathLab, clicking the Take a Test button you get a list of quizzes you can try again. You will be taking the entire quiz over. The higher of the two grades will be recorded for use in computing the course grade.
WARNING: Once the time limit expires you will not be able to work on homework or quizzes.
