"That time of year thou mayest in me behold
When yellow leaves, or none, or few do hang
Upon those boughs which shake against the cold
Bare ruined choirs, where late the sweet birds sang"
In addition to the topics listed below, an up-to-date exposition
on work underway in his laboratory can be found at his research
webpage .
CURRENT RESEARCH TOPICS INCLUDE:
A New Approach to Morphine.
A new approach using a Diels-Alder reaction as a key step is being
explored. Thus, as shown below, and as outlined in the thesis work of
Michael Costanzo (Ph. D., Temple University, 1988) and Michael Hinton
(Ph. D., Temple University, 1986) reactions such as that shown below
are being investigated.
Additional information about other alkaloid projects can be found at the other Dalton Gang webpage. Please

Gas Phase Addition of HCl to Alkenes and Alkynes.
Both Dr. Linda Mascavage and Dr. Philip Sonnet are working with Dr. Dalton on
the addition of HCl to dimethylacetylene (2-butyne) and to vinylacetylene
(3-butyne-1-ene).
Gas Phase Addition of HCl to Alkenes and Oxime Isomerization.
With Dr. Philip Sonnet
carrying through ab initio calculations
related to the reactions being examined by
Dr. Mascavage
and to those done previously on oximes (by Dr. D. Schnur, Ph. D., Temple
University, 1988) and Ms. Fan Zhang (MS, Temple University, 1996).
