Design # 588 -- 36'6 x 25' x 10' x 4' -- 1949 |
|
The Whistler Class is a graceful (of course), smaller version of Rhodes' very successful keel-centerboard hull. She is of the same proportions as the substantially larger Carina II, designed later, and the Swiftsure, somewhat smaller, also some years later. With substantial beam, she has a commodious interior (see photos below). Here is information about three Whistlers, one being restored, two for sale:

| I recently purchased my
own childhood dream - a Rhodes project boat. The boat is a Whistler Class
design #533, a 36 1/2 foot 7/8 fractional rig sloop, built for J.J. McLaughlin
by Thomas Knutson in 1956, photo above. Mystic Seaport has confirmed
they have all the drawings for the boat and they are sending me a list
for me to order, however, I was wondering if by chance you have ever happened
to come across any information on the Rhodes Whistler Class boats in your
travels. If you have any information you can send it would be greatly appreciated.
In the meantime I will continue my search and will keep you posted with
details if you'd like as time goes on.

| Whistler's Daughter (photos
below) is built to Rhodes' design 588, with slight modifications.
The cabin is longer, there is no bridge deck, there is a hatch over the
salon, and the ports are larger) but otherwise she is straight to
the plans. She was custom built in Belleville, Ontario.
The builder discussed all aspects of her construction with Rhodes.

The Whistler has a commodious, "classic" layout, with space for cabin heater in the main cabin. And what a special oval mirror! |
