Design #462, 38'10" x 27' x 9'9" x 5'10" aux sloop, 1941 The New Weekender was designed
for Donald Abbott, as a stock boat, built by Palmer Scott & Co. in
New Bedford MA. She has 2" more beam than the R27, but otherwise
is about the same size.
The New Weekender below cruised extensively on Long Island Sound, the outer islands, 4 trips to Maine and twice to Florida, thru the Chesapeake and the ICW, living aboard for about 8 months each time. The hull has a minimum of 4 layers of fiberglass with epoxy (more on stem and keel); a new Westerbeke engine was installede in l986 before the first trip to Florida. She sleeps four, has enclosed head with shower, pressure water and carries about 90 gals. of water. The boat sails very well and is reasonably fast, especially to windward, according to her owner..
Thes New Weekender below, named Spray, was built in 1947. The hull is 1" Philippine Mohogany. Topsides are 7/8" Philippine Mahogany. Frames are laminated white oak, 1 1/2" x 1 1/2". jay@centuryhouse.net is restoring her.
