| The Rhodes Cutter was designed as a shallow draft keelboat without a centerboard. The designed turned out to be an excellent sailor to windward, especially when hard down in a chop. Rhodes noted that the full rocker keel gives the entire keel length a chance to cut solid water. One theory was that when the water flow runs aft rather than turning under the bottom of the keel, tip vortex, which robs a keel of much of its efficiency, is minimized. Have today's designers, enamored with deep, narrow foils, missed something? |
