Dryad

#407 -- 45' x 32' x 11' x 6'3" yawl, 1936

Dryad was designed a year after Pavana (#397) and is has a similarly proportioned hull and interior layout.  Dryad was built by Nevins.  Rhodes felt that she was especially fast when sailing on a reach. A second boat, Anitaw,  was built to this design by Andersen in New Haven CT.

One distinctive feature of Dryad was its divided coach roof, so that the mast partners went clear across the deck.  This might have been done to strengthen the deck in that location, to provide more privacy for the forward cabin, or for better footing when hoisting sails.  This style divided coach roof is rare in Rhodes designs.

Dryad was designed with a tiller; one of her owners converted her to wheel steering.

Dryad spent years sailing the East coast and Carribean and then went to Australia. She was destroyed in 1993, cause unknown.
