Chantey

23' x 17' 6" x 7' 3" x 2' 7" centerboard sloop, Sept, 1928
No. 940

Chantey was built by Nevins in 1929 and is now 75 years old!  She seems to have her original planking, frames, and timbers.  Who would have imagined a wooden boat would last so long!

In 1935 Rhodes re-desiged the rig, shortened the boom, added jumpers and a permanent backstay, and discarded the running backstays.  With her centerboard and club jib, she is perfect for single-handed short-tacking in and out of gunkholes, creeks, etc.  She has two berths and very comfortable sitting headroom for over-nighting.

She sailed on Lake Memphremagog (linking Vermont to Quebec) during the 1980s and now graces the upper Chesapeake Bay, near Baltimore.
