(later renamed Chee Chee V) #463, 46'4" x 34' x 11'5" x 6'6" aux yawl, 1941 Carina is very similar to Pavana and Narada, the same waterline and 2" more beam. She is also a predecessor to the more famous, larger, centerboarder, Carina II. When owned by Richard Nye, Carina won the Marblehead-Halifx, Vineyard, and Block Island races, as well as the 1952 Bermuda Race. She then sailed to England and won the Cowes-Dinard, the Cross Channel, and Cowes Week Britannia Cup, and was second in class in the Fastnet. Nye had so much fun, he asked Rhodes to design Carina II. Philip Handelman bought Carina I in the mid 1960s and renamed her Chee Chee V. She continued to do well and won her class in the St. Petersburg-Fort Lauderdale Race in 1970. Carina is now sitting on the hard at the International Yacht Restoration School in Newport RI, waiting for for restoration to begin. Contact the IYRS if you are interested in participating in her restoration. http://www.iyrs.org/
