WestWind is a classic cutter and one of the earliest entries in the
Phillip Rhodes design index. She was commissioned in May 1927 by Edward
L. Palmer of Baltimore, constructed at the Ditmar Boatyard
in Newport, CA, and launched in Spring 1928. WestWind is the oldest
registered boat in the state of California having the hull number CF0002AA
(CF0001AA sank some years ago). She has changed owners 4 times in 72 years
and was captained over 40 years by Wiley Cole, Commodore of the Southern
California Yachting Association and the Santa Barbara Yacht Club, under
the name Lourita.
In 1999, WestWind underwent extensive restoration at Southcoast Shipyard in Newport, CA. She is currently in pristine classic condition in San Diego, CA.
