Student Government
Student Leadership
Temple Student Government offers some of the top student leadership positions on campus. With all the new endeavors we are proposing and as we continue to strive towards improving ourselves as a university, we will need more and more leaders to take positions in our student government where they can make a difference. Raysean Hogan along with the current VP of Student Affairs Cristina Ackas, has already given students an opportunity to step up and take control of the Homecoming Committee. For many of the people involved on this committee, it is their first time serving in a leadership position on this campus and they are doing a fabulous job! We plan to continue this trend as we look forward to more student involvement and a more vibrant campus.
Open Door Policy
After speaking to many students on campus, there is a sense that Temple Student Government has created this notion of “Insiders vs. Outsiders.” We strongly believe that anyone enrolled or working at this University has the right to attend Temple Student Government meetings and participate in its governance. To deprive any student of this right would be a travesty, almost ensuring that TSG would no longer speak on behalf on the student body. Because of this, Owl Evolution is the biggest supporter for student participation and encourages every student to attend TSG general assembly meetings.
Annual Meeting with Board of Trustees
Temple University’s Board of Trustees is in charge of making the decisions that affect every aspect of our university. Many of the students on this campus have never seen or even know who serves on the board. We will strongly advocate for establishing an annual meeting with at least some members of the board. It is imperative that we start this trend so that the students and decision makers can have a healthier relationship.
User-friendly TSG Website
Temple Student Government is a source of information for the students and it is our job that we get information to the students as fast as possible. That is why we will update, maintain, and offer many new services on our website regularly. One of the new additions we have proposed is establishing a section that lists student opportunities for involvement. It’s almost like a classified section for student leaders.
Informative TSG Newsletter
Currently Student Government publishes a newsletter each semester. With everything that happens throughout the year we propose increasing the amounts of newsletter to at least two a semester, and increasing its distribution.
Debate Issues in General Assembly Meetings
General Assembly meetings are supposed to be a place where students can come together and talk about the issues that affect them. To increase the dialogue between people in a public setting, we hope that issues will be put at the forefront of general assembly discussion and students will become more passionate about solving them.
Continue Relationship with Main Campus Program Board
Main Campus Program Board (MCPB) is a crucial component to the continued enrichment of student life on our Main Campus. As MCPB president, Raysean Hogan has seen a drastic improvement on diversifying Program Board activities, which ultimately lead to the racial and cultural diversification of the large audiences that attended Program Board events. It is important that TSG and MCPB continue to work together for the benefit of all student organizations and the entire student body.
New Focus on Community Relations
As Temple continues expanding and more development occurs in North Philadelphia, it is important that we keep the concerns of the neighboring community in mind. One of our proposals is that TSG consistently attend town hall meetings so that the student body understands the wants and needs of our neighboring community. By doing so, we hope to maintain a working relationship with community leaders that will ultimately lead to a healthier North Philadelphia. Owl Evolution is visionary, but it can not lose sight of keeping Temple a university that is concerned with its neighbors.
