GETTING STARTED IN DREAMWEAVER:

Setting up your folders:

  1. Create a new folder called "LifeDuringWartimeRoot".
  2. Move your LifeDuringWartime[YourName] (or whatever you named your site folder the first time) into it.
  3. Your LifeDuringWartime [YourName] folder should already contain two other folders: "html" and "images", which you made during class.

.

Setting up your site:

  1. Go to Site>Manage Sites and select LifeDuringWartime[YourName] and select the Edit option.
  2. In Local Info, click the blue folder icon next to Local Root Folder, and navigate to the LifeDuringWartimeRoot folder you created.  Choose it.  Click OK and Done.
  3. In Local Info, click the blue
folder icon next to Default Images Folder, and navigate to the Images folder inside your LifeDuringWartime[YourName] folder. This means that images you insert into your pages will automatically be copied into this folder.

  4. In Remote Info, set the Access menu to "FTP"; name the FTP Host "astro.temple.edu"; name the Host Directory "public_html"; for Login put your e-mail username; for Password put your e-mail password. Click OK

Creating html pages:

  1. Go to FILE>NEW and, in the dialog that comes up, click CHOOSE.
  2. Lay out your page, using either default formatting (no formatting method) or else by inserting a Table: INSERT>TABLE, choosing the desired number of columns and rows to accommodate your 7 words/images.
  3. Save your pages into the "html" folder inside your LifeDuringWartime[YourName] folder.
  4. Create a new Dreamweaver page for each of your 7 days. Use your writing and images in a simple design on each page.
  5. Make a link between each of the 7 word/image icons on your index.html page and each of the 7 new pages, using the Properties box: Select you word/image pair (i.e., "Day One") and use the blue folder icon next to the LINK space to navigate to the page associated with that day. Do the same for each day. Save all pages by going to FILE>SAVE ALL.

Uploading your files :

  1. Go to the WINDOW menu and down to Files, to bring up the Site Files window.
connect to your remote site, by clicking the little blue plug icons at the top of the window.  Your remote files should appear
  2. Under Local Files, you should see the following: a folder called:  SITE - LifeDuringWartimeRoot, and below that, the other folder called LifeDuringWartimePatrick
  3. Drag the LifeDuringWartimePatrick folder into the public_html/ folder on the remote side.  Dreamweaver should then copy all your files to the remote folder, and the LifeDuringWartimePatrick folder should now appear inside the public_html/ folder. The html folder and images folder should be inside it.
  4. Now you should be able to enter your URL and see your site on the web.
