| Ben Stavis (Ph.d. Columbia
U, 1973) specializes in comparative politics, with an emphasis on China,
Asia, and the third world. He teaches undergraduate and graduate courses
in these fields and has published numerous books and articles about China.
His current research deals with the conversion of China's industrial work units into more autonomous, market-responsive business enterprises. For workers to accept this change, China is creating new pension and health insurance systems that are separated from the work units.
